CPS from a CPS4100 - Interesting Angle

Just wanted to share this recent pic I took of a CPS4100's CPS chamber fully detached from the soaker.

It took some time and effort to pry open the glued CPS holder, but it was well worth the effort. I was a little surprised to see how thick the actual PC is: the rubber is roughly 1-1.5mm thick. The rubber chamber snugly fits within its holder. Thankfully, I've also managed to re-attach the chamber (after a little tweaking, of course) and so far no leaks!

I was also surprised when I first opened up and took out the CPS bag. It's really thick! :suspicious:

I suppose it makes sense (the thickness of the CPS wall and all), but it's one thing to think on it; it's another to actually see it.

Isoaker, if you're not going to use that PC again, would you mind sending me a small piece in an envelope? I'd like to find out what type of rubber it is and I don't have any guns worth disassembling at present.

I would send it, but I am going to reuse it (it's already reattached to the blaster... snug as a bug in a bug... err...)

I have one just like his, but I plan to reuse it. Would it be possible to buy two 4100's, take out their internals, attach a double trigger and pump system, then create a double tank? You'd have a 8200.

^ most soaker designs are possible if you know what you're doing...

You're basically describing making a homemade MXL from the sounds of it...

I meant mm (millimeters), not cm. If it was centimeters thick, I'd be really afraid of tearing after multiple use. AFAIK, rubber can't be too thick in order to retain even elasticity.

I've opened up my fair share and all of them were waaaay thicker than a MM. Most were about a CM.

My homemade's CPS chamber is 3/8" thick, about a centimeter (9.5 mms actually, after the bike tubes it probably was about 1.2 cms thick). It expands differently, from the center out a little bit at a time. I don't think it will expand fully vertically, but horizontally, yes. I believe that is what it will do with more layers, I'm planning on making it thicker. If anything it will burst of the seals because of that, it still pumps up, but occaisonally because I didn't put the tubing clamps on tight enough one of them bursts off.

As far as I know, the stuff I'm using in my homemades is the same stuff Super Soakers use. In fact, I think it says on the Water Worm's box or instructions something about latex rubber tubing, what I use. It may not be the same as what Super Soakers used, but it's pretty #### close.

Don't worry, that's happened to me before.

Anyway, I was not suprised the first I saw how thick a tubular CPS chamber was. It makes perfect sense. Sure it seems a little thick, but it has to get it's power somehow...

I knew that the 4100's PC was cylinderic but I never knew that it bumps/ridges. I had always thought of it as a nearly perfect cylinder that tapered to those valves at the ends.

The ridges are from the clamp. The PC is (or should be) completely flat otherwise.

I just took the nozzle selector off of my 4100 and it sparayed a huge shotgun blast(for about a second).

I've done that with my Monster-X (and CPS-4100). It is a huge blast that is guaranteed to soak anyone it hits, but it doesn't shoot very far (unless you modify it).
