Duelfest!! Tournament

Post by marauder » Fri Jan 25, 2013 4:43 pm

DX and I are going to be holding a series of duels next week featuring the following match ups!

SS 300 vs CPS 3000
Colossus 2 vs XP 150
Colossus 2 vs Colossus
Colossus vs XP 250
Colossus vs XXP 275
Colossus vs Gorgon
Gorgon vs XP 250
Gorgon vs XXP 275
Gorgon vs CPS 4100
and Squirt Pistol vs Electrostorm

Rules will be as follows.
All matches will consist of 2 10 minute long, 1 hit scores, rounds. After the first round we will swap guns. Upon completion of each match we will add up the # of hits by gun. The final score will read something like the following: Colossus 48 to Gorgon 52.

Here's where you become involved
We're going to be taking bets on the matches. Make your prediction for each match on which gun will win.

In the case of a tie the winner will be decided by most accurately predicting the spread for each match. The spread will be the % one gun will win by vs the other. Eg in Colossus 48 to Gorgon 52, the Gorgon wins by 4%. Kind of like in political races where one candidate wins by a certain % over another.

So, fellow board members, make your predictions on the matches! Which gun will win each match and by how much? I will be giving out prize(s) to the winner. Either blasters or some super soaker paraphanelia, depending on your preference.

Sounds like fun. I seriously doubt that you're going to have 52-48 scores though, haha.

Here's what I think:

SS 300 vs. CPS 3000: My money's (though I'm not actually betting anything) on the 300. Superior range with almost as much capacity should help the 300 overcome the output disadvantage. ~10%

Colossus 2 vs. XP 150: Not sure on this one. I fought with DX and Scott in the soakfest at Hydropocalypse; I had a 150 and they had Colossi, and we were pretty evenly matched. The 2 is less powerful than the original, but not by much. ~2.5%

Colossus 2 vs. Colossus: Honestly, the two don't differ enough to make much of a difference. I think the original will win, but not by much. ~2.5%

Colossus vs. XP 250: Not entirely sure, as I've never seen a 250 in person before, let alone seen one shoot. From what I've heard, the two guns are about equal in power, but the 250 is more bulky and awkward to use, so I think I'll go Colossus. ~7.5%

Colossus vs. XXP 275: Once again, I'll probably bet on the Colossus, although the 275's streams are pretty hard to dodge. ~7.5%

Colossus vs. Gorgon: Gorgon, definitely. ~15%

Gorgon vs. XP 250: Once again, probably the Gorgon, but like I said, I have never seen a 250 (in person) in my life. ~15%

Gorgon vs. XXP 275: See above. ~15%

Gorgon vs. CPS 4100: Definitely the 4100, though the scores might be closer than one would think. ~20%

Squirt pistol vs. Electrostorm: It all depends on what kind of squirt pistol. Assuming you're going to use DX's HH Dream pistol, I'd probably say either one of them could win. With the E-storm, you can just hold down the trigger and charge, but the HH Dream had a larger stream. They both fired about the same distance. ~2.5%

Are refills allowed?
SS 300 vs CPS 3000: SS 300 by 8%
Colossus 2 vs XP 150: Colossus 2 by 5%
Colossus 2 vs Colossus: Colossus by 2%
Colossus vs XP 250: Colossus by 5%
Colossus vs XXP 275: XXP 275 13%
Colossus vs Gorgon: Gorgon by 8%
Gorgon vs XP 250: Gorgon by 4%
Gorgon vs XP 275: XP 275 by 3%
Gorgon vs CPS 4100: CPS 4100 by 8%
Squirt pistol vs Electrostorm: Electrostorm by 5%
Also, is there no soaking while filling?
EDIT: For the XP 250 and XXP 275, the 275 by 10%.

If you run out of water before 10 minutes is up then yes you can be soaked while refilling! I don't see it happening though cuz the guns we are using all have high amount of shots per tank.

Oh, I see. When are the results coming out?
You should do this more often, I like this.
Seal, You probably want to add by how many points each one will win by.

I did, but really, I have no idea by how much one gun will win over another. There are a huge number of variables involved, and I don't have a lot of experience with any of these guns.

In this order 300, XP 150, Colossus, colossus, colossus, Gorgon, Gorgon CPS 4100, squrit gun.
I won't guess %'s but the only rout will be 300 vs CPS 3000

Don't be intimidated by your lack of experience. I don't think any of us have the amount of experience to predict these with precision. Half the fun is just guessing the margin of victory.

Now that I think about it, unless you two go ultra-offensive in your duels, or if the battlefield supports offensive fighting (in other words, not like DX's backyard where you can barely move), the scores will likely be very low, and therefore most guns won't have a very large margin of victory. Just think about the recent fights we've had.

I don't have any of these guns except the Electrostorm, haha (though I had a 4100 a long time ago). But that will change soon.

Just a little behavioral psychology tangent here, but I would predict that SEAL and the Oncoming Storm are cautious and probably more likely to be conservative. Reason being, you have absolutely nothing to lose by guessing at margin of victory and yet you still don't guess.

I don't mean that as a slight, just an obvservation. I am really excited about the SS 300 vs CPS 3000 round. Actually, I am excited about all of these rounds. Perhaps we can see what is the best large AP gun with an onboard reservoir. Depending on which gun wins the most matches. XXP 275, XP 250, Colossus, or Gorgon? I think it's highly unlikely, but if for some reason the 150 or Colossus 2 end up owning then we will make adjustments and fight with them more.

There is no point in fighting 20 minutes because it is a 1 on 1 duel and we aren't playing manhunt or anything like that.

I'm curious as to why so many people pick the XXP 275 to win. I don't think it's that great a gun really. The Gorgon and maybe even the Colossus are better weapons in my opinion. They're less awkward to use, but they're more powerful.

I'm probably looking forward to the 300 vs. 3000 match the most, though I am curious to see if a Super Soaker really can be beaten by a squirt pistol. One thing I want to see that you didn't include is XP 250 vs. XXP 275. I'm guessing the scores would be very close.

Scott is contributing a squirt bottle to the Electrostorm battle.
