The Tank IS Almost Complete!!!!!!! (Pictures)

Post by teamfear » Fri May 08, 2009 4:24 pm

So I finally started building my tank I had planned to build since last year. All it needs are wheels, a turret and a machine gun mount which I will finsh in the next few weeks. It will not be that mobile so I entend to use it not as a MBT, but as a support/transport vehicle. I have recently added storage and push handles (It works like a flinstones car). I have the hatchs and Im using part of a big barrel as a turret. The wheels will be from a shopping cart or I will buy some.

Here are some previous topics that relate to my design.

I'm sorry, but frankly, that's wouldn't be of any use.

Um sorry but I plan on using it at my wars and I do not know you. You and your dick response does not matter to me. I built it because I obviously think It would be of use to me. I have planed on building a tank and I finally am building so its not one of those dumn speculation threads. If you disagree with my veiw why post. Of course I know some people don't like tanks but why post. If your going to reply why not say something constructive.

@Teh Moron: That was a rather pointless and troll-like response. If you post like that again, your account will be suspended.

@teamfear: that's a pretty heavy duty piece of construction you've got going! Not sure how easy it'll be to push around, but that all depends on the wheels you get and the terrain you use it on. Good luck with it, though! LEt us know how it turns out once it is functional (i.e. mobile) and how it fares in its first and/or test battles!

Pointless? Sorry, but let's get our facts straight here.

Pros:
Intimidation.
Protection.
Cons:
Lack of mobility
Easy to ambush
Hard to transport
Hard to shoot from accurately
Safety hazard

Sorry, but not all of your ideas are going to be good. Your "tank" trades accuracy, firepower and mobility for defense. In order to be an efficient piece of equipment it must be well rounded.

I realize that my initial reaction was a bit severe, but honestly, i would laugh if I saw this.

Mobile pillbox, I see. My most immediate concern would actually be splinters. :p

Teh_Moron does have a point, though...dodging works about as well as shielding for defense, and it looks like you have at least a few trees, too. Transportation and safety are a lesser problem than the fact that protecting yourself means ducking and sitting tight until they run up to the tank and shoot you.

That said, with a turret on top and a plastic sheet for visibility while you're ducking, it could be useful for base defense or siege. I'd want to see a really nice homemade soaker on it, though. :)

BEAST!!! Darn, teamfear, that's a monster. If only I'd get off my lazy ass and make something like that...
I might try to make something like that this weekend if I have a large chunk of time, but then again, I need to study for exams ZOMG.

I have my homemade cannon that I will use on it but It will not be mounted permantly. It is supposed to work like the halo elephant. It is a support vehicle not meant for frontline combat. "mobile pillbox" that sums it up. It is not finished but i will saftey it up and hopefully for the best. Also I am cocking it so it is waterproof.

I find gun to gun combat much more fun. Even though this thing does not do what it was intended to, what it was intended to do is not all that great. Who wants to fight an invincible tank?

Teh_Moron, even a perfect tank wouldn't be able to chase somebody, go through a doorway or shrubbery, capture a flag, etc. If you play RTS games you'll see that there's a rock-paper-scissors mechanic relating infantry, light vehicles, armored vehicles, anti-tank, buildings, and artillery. Even in real war you can't just send in an M1 Abrams; and in WWII, at least, a tank was often a sitting duck. So no, the tank was probably not intended to be invincible.

teamfear, if you're interested in the mobile pillbox idea, you could build a few real pillboxes and carry them around. The biggest benefit of that is not being stuck inside whenever someone engages you.

BTW, "cocking" should be "caulking". B)

You're right about objective based combat, but for free for all soakfests in a field or something, a well designed and implemented tank would be king.

Fortunately our particular model is neither of those, so it really serves no practical purpose.

Opinions are fine if they are backed up by reasons. However, your first post in this thread appeared solely as a trolling post and gave no explanation why you felt that way. You've also already opted to edit your original post as it contained cruder comments originally. Your latter posts explain your feelings and thus are fine. I have no problem with anyone hating or objecting to any others' ideas on here; they just need to explain why they don't like something.

I put a turret on and wheels but the back two failed so I am building an axle. Apart from the back two wheels it is awesome! It will be eliminated if one of the sides is completely soaked. If a player is shot inside the tank they must exit it.

If I built something like this, I'd go for more of a supply cart than an enclosed tank. This thing will need a good mobile team to defend as it moves; by itself or with not enough people defending it, it could get soaked pretty quickly. Since you play halo though, you probably have a good idea on how to use it.

As for my supply cart idea, its basically a mobile cart that gets dragged around and carries water supplies, a gun, and a WBL. The gunner can simply switch to a CPS and start fighting mobily (if thats even a word) if things get to be a problem. In the pillbox here, the gunner is pretty screwed if he gets ganged up on. Of course, with a supply cart, you don't get as much cover either, unless the cart is as tall as this tank here.

For now, I think you could integrate both concepts. Make it so that supplies, guns, etc. can be mounted and stored on the sides of the tank. (outside, not in) I'd recommend water bottles and 1 or 2 water tanks with valves attached to them for easy re-supply. Overall, this can serve as cover for the mobile team defending it, but if the enemy gets close enough, it would be easy for them to use high-arcing shots that go up past the cart and back down on someone hiding behind it.

I shouldn't need to mention this, but you'll also need closeable gunport holes on all sides of the tank, or at least enough to cover a >180° field of fire. This thing seems like it'd fit a crew of 2.

Yes Side gunports are a good Idea but did I mention the turret rotates 360 degrees? There is also a crew of 3. A driver, A driver/gunner and a gunner. Infantry support would indeed be nessicary because the tank could be elimintaed with a few water ballons. The driver pushes and can carry a light rifle or pistol but he is mainly operating with his hatch closed. The driver/gunner is responislbe for helping move the tank but he also can pop out of his hatch with a water cannon (like a 50cal on an M1 abrams.) I am thinking of making a mount for the driver/gunners cannon. The main gunner operates a CPS cannon/ most likely my 1500 but there is a bucket for extra guns such as my homemade water cannon that is like a massive shotgun. Mounts on the sides for supporting the infantry escorts is a good idea.

Why does it lock from the outside? 0.o

The main use I can see for this would be deploying it near an engagement, and then being a place your people can run back to when they run out of pressure/water while the guy in the tank covers them and keeps the other team from following, without that much risk of being hit himself. Do you think it might be difficult to move around though, especially with alot of stuff and people in it?

Its easy to move. Its made of wood but we can handle it. About the latch I have wondered why I haven't got around to changing it.
