Low tech, water time bombs - How do you make one?
Darts may be safer than explosives, but can you imagine if you aimed a little too low?
"AAAHHH! MY EYE!"
The most reliable trap I've used so far is the simple:
"Throw a string over a tree branch and tie a balloon to it" method.
You can even use massive party size balloons for this type, which will dump over a gallon of water on its unfortunate target.
I myself have searched for a better drenching trap or time-bomb, but with little success. I did however manage to create a fairly impressive mine that is very simple, cheap, easy to set up and effective at spraying the upper torso of your target with a suggnificant amount of water.
I will be reviling this new piece of equipment in the coming weeks, along with several other homemade devices that are overdue for their debut.

The Maple-Mountain-Marines.
Terrifying, but oddly refreshing.

I say just wait intill you want it to go off and then trough it at the place you want it to explod. I don't see the pont of a time bomb, besids the fact that it would be cool.

What if you hung a balloon in a tree (or over someplace someone is likely to take cover), and then either set up a tripwire type device or extend a string that you can activate yourself? Once the wire is set off or you pull the string, the device will drop the balloon onto your enemy! I think i would be interested in designing something like that. That way, the balloon woudlnt' be in plain sight and you could time it to make sure it'll hit someone.

I got inspired by this page, though how they used ice is a little different than what came to my mind.
Ice could be used as a delay device; no, don't freeze a water balloon. Instead, freeze two lengths of string together. Tie one part to a water balloon and tie the other to a tree or wherever you want the balloon to drop from. When the ice melts enough, the balloon will be released. To reduce pre-dripping from the idea that may give away a timer's location, attach a small bit of sponge or absorbent paper to reduce/eliminate water from the melting ice from falling.
Never tried it, but it should work.
Using ice as a delay time could be used for a lot of more complex devices as well.

Inaccurate? You mean you don't know how fast an ice cube melts?
I'm thinking of this more for a delayed timer, not a specific-time-delay timer. If one needs something set for a specific amount of time, a spring-loaded clock timer or digital one would be needed.

Good question! I have no good answer.WaterWolf wrote:I see what your thinking now.
But what purpose could the odd-time system be used for?
*thinking* Perhaps useful as a distraction if a rough estimate of melting time is known (tests would need to be done on how long it takes an average ice cube to melt enough to release a strung-up water balloon). Of course, it's also great for playing pranks in areas where people are known to hang out, but I'd only recommend targetting friends/family and never strangers.
