Does it leak after you fire it? The O-ring seals for the nozzle selectors may be going bad. I would go and replace them.

For $5 that is a great deal. Unfortunately the MXL is difficult to take apart due to its sheer size, number of screws, and number of plastic parts. If you are somewhat inclined mechanically I suggest taking it apart, pumping it up while it's open to see where it might leaking, fix that, and then replace the screws with new machine screws from a home improvement store.
