Hands-On: Nerf Super Soaker Rocket Dart

Post by isoaker » Tue Aug 14, 2012 12:07 pm

For those who haven't noticed, I pushed up a bunch of pictures of the Nerf Super Soaker Rocket Dart. Found them at a local Toys 'R Us. For those who haven't seen these in person, they are about 21" (~54cm) long, made of foam, don't absorb water, and are colored and styled with Nerf Super Soaker colours and branding.

Of all the "Super Soaker" branded products I can think of, this is one of the few that neither dispenses water nor is directly useful for water warfare. Things like the Super Soaker Waterballoon flinger don't dispense water, but are used for launching water balloons. SoakerTags aren't used for soaking, but are used for scoring. Things like the Super Soaker Splashketball, Mt. Tiki Soki, Rocket, Racer, Wing Thing, etc. all push out water even though not being as useful for water warfare. The only other thing that comes to mind that doesn't actually dispense water and is not useful in water wars is the 20th Anniversary Super Soaker keychain, but that one is neat from a collector's standpoint. Heck, even the Nerf Super Soaker Battle Shield, with its limit usefulness, is still meant to be used in a water war.

Ok, back on topic, the Nerf Super Soaker Rocket Dart is pretty much a foam dart for throwing and catching. Can be used "in the park" or "in the pool" since, being foam, it'll float on water. It flies acceptably, but I don't quite see the purpose of being branded under the Nerf Super Soaker brand. Not much else to say on this device. Perhaps it can be used to improve one's throwing arm for lobbing water balloons, but this thing also weighs less than a respectable balloon would weigh and, obviously, flies a lot differently. For those who've always wanted to play catch with a Nerf Super Soaker branded foam rocket, your product is here! For the rest of the water warfare community, nothing of particular use for water combat here.

What do a gaming PC, smartphone, and GoPro HERO2 all have in common?

They contribute more to water warfare than all recent Super Soaker products combined.
