What Makes a Good Armoury?

Post by marauder » Tue Mar 06, 2012 2:50 pm

Two part question. What types/roles of guns do you need/want in your armory? What individual guns do you think best fill those types/roles?

Here's what I need in an arsenal:

Pistols for sneak attacks/goofing around
Guns for fun backyard soakfests
Medium guns for backyard soakfests and serious games with weaponry restrictions
A piston gun for game types that require one or more on each team
Heavy weapons for serious games

I need enough weapons so that I can change them out and keep from using the same guns over and over again, so that they stay in good condition.

Current arsenal:

Pistols: 4 XP 20s (camo), Goblin, XP 35, SS 10
Backyard fun guns: 2 XP 240s, Transformers Sneak Attack/Optimus Prime, XP 65, XP 70 (purple and blue edition), XP 75 (blue and orange version), XP 105 (glow in the dark), SS 60
Medium guns: 3 SC 600 mk2s, Explorer, XP110, XP 150, SS 100mk2 (camo), SS 210 mod (camo), 2 Arctic Blasts, WWF Stone Cold
Piston gun: None (gave my shotblast to Jack)
Serious weapons: CPS 1000 (camo), CPS 1200 (camo), CPS 2100 (camo), 2 CPS 1500s (camo), CPS 2500 (camo), CPS 2000 mk1 (gillie cover), Monster XL, Vindicator

Ideal arsenal:
Pistols: Goblin, 4 XP 20s or SS 30s, XP 35
Backyard fun guns: XP 240 (color variant mod), XP 70 (purple and blue edition)
Medium guns: 2 SC 600 mk2s (black paintjob), 2 XP 150s (custom paintjob), SS 100mk2 (camo), Hydrocannon (custom paintjob, extended PC mod, backpack mod), 2 Aquapack Devastators (new max d springs), Flash Flood (camo, new max d spring & nozzle screen removed), Collossus?, Pool Pumper w backpack?
Piston Gun: Shotblast
Serious weapons: 2 CPS 1200s (camo, light k mod), 2 CPS 2100s (camo, light k mod), CPS 1500 (light k mod, spring in check valve replaced like GJIV did, camo), CPS 2500 (camo), CPS 2000 mk1 (gillie cover), Monster XL, Vindicator, CPS 3200 (gillie), SS 300

Anything else is just gravy.

Ideal arsenal:
Pistols: Goblin, XP 240, 2 MI Defender (drilled)
Backyard fun guns: APWC, SuperCannon II
Medium guns: 2 XP 150, 2 SC 600, 2 XP 310
Piston Gun: 2 PPP with an actually good pump and seal
Serious weapons: n CPS 12K mk1 (moderate balloons), n CPS 2000 MKX (power modded with McMaster rubber), n CPS 2500 MKX (power modded with McMaster rubber), n Mortar WBL (fast-opening or sabot-triggered valve, pop-out bipods, ajustable angling with range-angle reading system)

Not sure what I need, probably something similar to your format M4, except that I'd mix heavy and medium weapons (I use either in serious games) as well as backyard fun and pistols. However, I'll use your exact list for my armoury for convenience:

Current (Not Broken):
Pistols: XP215, STE Triple Shot, Buncha' squirt pistols,
Backyard Fun: Can't think of any, my APH is broken :'(
Medium: XP 110, SS 50, WW Xenon, WW Scorpion, Heavily Modded FF, WW Yellow Jacket
Piston: WW Gremlin
Heavy: CPS 12k (35 balloons), CPS 2700, CPH (if I can make a decent pump seal), WW Gorgon, WW Orca, XP 250 (if it ever gets delivered to me...)

I'm sure I have more, I just can't remember them.

Ideally, I want:

Pistols: What I have+SS 10
Backyard Fun: SuperCannon of some sort, Hydroblade, Splat Blaster, XP Backfire, Mt. Tiki Soki, maybe a catapult :D
Medium: What I have+XP 150, MD 6k (I've owned 2, both broke, damn PRVDs...), Aquapack Devastator, WW Colossus (probably), XP 105, Mid-sized APH
Piston: Helix, Stream Machine-esque Homemades (varying sizes)
Heavy: What I have+CPS 2500 x a bunch, CPS 1500, Monster, Monster X, SS 300, probably a CPH with a trigger, WW Krypton (or if they ever make a bigger version).

The Water Warriors Raven is an obscure 2008 re-release of the Wasp, a piston-based, fairly-sizable pistol. I picked it off Ebay in October of 2007 somehow, even Big Bee himself didn't know how it got on Ebay before its official release. It's the only soaker I own that was purchased in the year of its copyright, and therefore before its year of release. The odd thing is how a search for the name doesn't ping any other instances of this soaker. I can't even find a single picture of this thing, other than in the original auction, which is no longer available. You'd think that a regular release would at least be reviewed and owned by more than one person. It's actually one of the best-looking of the WW guns. I took some pics, but they didn't come out well (I need more ambient light). It sports a sexy black reservoir with a yellow-outlined name sticker, a black pump, and a yellow body. The packaging claims 38 oz and 35ft, while the item number is 01180 (not the same as the WW Wasp). Interestingly, neither guns in the pic of it being pumped and filled are legit Ravens. The pumping pic is blatantly a Wasp mk3, with a blue reservoir and green body. The filling pic is the same type of Wasp, but with a yellow-outlined Raven sticker on it. Also, and I never noticed this before, but its "Water Warriors" sticker design appears to be unique. It departs drastically from everything else made in its year, and most resembles the 2007 stickers. I'd be willing to bet that the patent number would gives us some more insight, but it's printed on the screw side of the gun and that's pressed against the box. I'm not inclined to take it out of the packaging yet.

DC 2000 is a Speed Loader Double Cross 2000. Not nearly as obscure as a Raven, although iSoaker still has yet to review one.

Easy. What makes a good armory is a CPS 2100.

Never breaks. Fills any role. Easily modified. Good range, output, and looks. In my mind, there is no reason to go smaller than this gun (it's already pretty light to begin with). And nowadays, there really is no reason to go bigger (very few people will have access to a more powerful water gun). However, if you do find yourself and your friends facing some heavy homemade or heavy CPS weaponry, it might behoove you to supplement your arsenal with a compact APH (like my M1). You will have more power than you know what to do with at a price-point that is half that of an eBay sniped Golden Age Super Soaker.

Of course, this is only if you want to play serious gametypes. For soakfests and general fun, I am a firm believer in the less-is-more mantra. Small single chamber air pressure guns like the XP 70 make for extremely fun close range soakfests, and almost any of the medium-to-large WW air pressure guns from the last 7 years can fill this role marvelously.

OK, so I think I will not include my broken ones since this list is going to be long enough already (if you want to know those, check my profile). Mind you my arsenal isn't as advanced is some members so some of my medium guns others might consider backyard fun guns.

Pistols: XP 220, Goblin, Max-D 2000 (x2) that sorta work, Storm 2 in 1.
Backyard fun: AS Secret Strike, Arctic Blast, Shield Blaster 1000, XP 85, XP 105, Water Ball SL 175, Water Ball ML 50, Steady Stream, Pulse Blaster (x2).
Gag guns: A few Squirt Pistols, Monster X pen, Monster X key chain, 2 or 3 spray bottles.
Medium guns: SS 100, Shield Blaster 3000, Equalizer (x2).
Big guns: XXP 275, Vindicator, Vanquisher (x2).
Heavy hitters: CPS 3200 (shotgunned), CPS 2500.
Piston guns: Helix, Steady Stream (does this count?), Power Soaker Pumper II, Hydro Pulse.

My ideal Arsenal: Really I like my arsenal the way it is, and I don't really have room for any more guns. Really I would just like to get some more pistols (weather they be Max-Ds, XPs or Vipers it matters little) and fix some of my broken guns. My other Vindicator is the one I really want fixed, but some others would be nice too. Right now I have too many broken guns taking up space, My Vindicator and 2100 are defiantly keepers no mater what but I got to do something about the others.

As you can all see, I have a lot of guns (35), so I wouldn't be surprised if I forgot about one or two.

Found the topic you were talking about:
What Makes a Good Armoury?
Don't know if you guys want to keep up this thread, or revive that one above.

At this point, I would still love a 2K (if I had the funds), but I dream less about what is in my arsonel and more about how I store it. It seams I am one of the only members here who keeps his guns outdoors (at least they are out of the sun/rain), I really wish I had a wine seller or heated garage, or somewhere other then my porch to keep them all.

Oh... and I did get that XP Pool Pumper Blaster that I listed earlier in this topic. Gonna connect it to a 4L soft hydration pack when I get home, and then ghillie it.... and I have a very special gun waiting to be revealed at Hydropocalypse that I just got.

iSoaker has more blasters than Chris Reid (I think.); I would love to see him lay out all of his...

Dream arsenal? Look no further than the 2nd post in this thread, although I would like to add a Douchenator to my current "Serious Weapons", and a full-auto 100-round WBL to my ideal serious weapons.
