XP 150

Post by SEAL » Tue Jan 17, 2012 5:54 pm

Is the XP 150 good? I heard somewhere that it was one of the best blasters ever. Is that true? Would it be wise to spend $20 USD on one, or would an SC 600 for the same price be a better choice?

I have 4 of them and it's about average as far as range, output, and capacity are concerned with air powered guns of its size. What people use 150s for is tap-pumping and tap shot capacity. Holy mother of God can those things tap shoot. The trigger repeats faster than any other water gun except the XP 75. A million tap shots later, you pump it once and keep going. Every time you think you're running out of pressure, it only takes 1 or 2 pumps and you're shooting again. If you pump while shooting / while tap shooting, it just keeps on shooting on and on forever in a way that's quite different from the usual tap-pumping guns. The pump is clear, too. The nozzle could use drilling, it's pretty small. Drilling might also do something about the awful (by my standards, having a 40+ ft shooting Defender) range. The pump seals are not great in 150s and you need to pump faster and harder to get some of them to draw correctly. That can be fixed with lube or replacement. They can squeal when being pumped, which will give away your position in a live war.

For $20, I want the 600. 150s don't have a reputation for being completely reliable (at one point all 4 of mine were not quite working, but not quite broken). 600s are fun, even with no QFD/VHS. However, I don't know much about them, having never owned one and only having shot one a few times in 2004.

http://hydrowar.com/sc600.html (I need to upload a new pic when I get the chance)
http://hydrowar.com/xp150.html (old review, need to reformat to current webdesign)

Do not consider buying an SC 600 mk1. Only consider buying an mk2. The difference is mentioned in my review. The SC 600 mk2 is very straightforward, I own 3. They all perform exactly the same. I've also used XN's mk2 and it performed the same as well.

XP 150s are more hit or miss. What XN said about pumping, shot time, and tap shooting is spot on; however, range and power is variable and I have yet to find a coorelation between the mks and range. I am not sure if there is even a coorelation. My first XP 150 was an mk3, the green, purple, and orange version. It shot a good 37 feet! That's the same distance as all SC 600 mk2s I've tested. Although it didn't have constant pressure, the amazing pump, quick trigger, and higher output made up for it. Unfortunately, it broke. My current XP 150 is an mk1 and it shoots a disappointing 33 feet. ~1m difference in range doesn't seem like much, but it makes a huge difference in any kind of elimination or score based game.

For $20 I would get the 600 if it's an mk2.

Thank you guys. The 600 is a MK2 (Gray pump handle.), so I guess that's the better choice, since I'm not sure about the 150; It has the original colors (Gray, red, & blue.), so that would mean that it's either a MK1 or MK2, right?

And this is not really on topic, but isn't there a 600 with a blue body as well? I guess that would be a MK3?

Yes, that would be the mk3. http://www.sscentral.org/reviews/sc600.html SSC reports the performance as "superior," the same mark given to the mk2, but I take that with a grain of salt. There are a lot of things I go to SSC for first, but reviews are not one of them, as the statistics and release facts are not very consistent... for example, it says the 600 was realeased only in 2001, when we know the first 2 marks were released in 1999. If I had to guess, the mk3 probably does perform superior to the mk1, and might just be the same internals as the mk2, but recolored... but then again we have no statistics on this matter, so it's just a guess.

Both blasters are nice blasters concerning performance at small/lower middle class.

I do not have a SC 600 at the moment, but when talking about the XP 150, I can only say, this is a nice gun. Quick to pump, quick to fire. Well balanced, not too heavy and with a good performance. You could drill out the nozzle and prae pump the PCs, which let it come quite near to the SC 600.

Apart from that, SC 600 will have a bigger PC and it is CPS. So this is what it falls when compaired to each other.

Would recommend it, but also the Sc 600 :) Hopefully I will possess both again soon :)
