Today, a few people at work were discussing end times survival the world is going to end scenarios. They got to talking about clean drinking water and one said "You can filter water with SUPER SOAKERS." I butted in, "Wait, what?"

"Water filters vary in size, so you'll need one that is really tight and has antibacterial abilities. You know super soakers right?"
"Yeah, I love those things, I have a bunch at my house."
"Well, their filters are really top quality and you could use them in a survival type scenario."

I didn't get to ask him what filter he was talking about and where it was located because we were next in line to zero our M4 ACOGs (red dot optic). Honestly, I have know clue what the two guys were talking about. One was MI, and so he's very smart, but I have never heard anything about Super Soakers having anti bacterial filters.

What say you? Any ideas?

Super Soakers (water blasters) have filters that take out large particulates and help with stream lamination, but definitely nothing that can be considered antibacterial. There are things called "Super Soaker" mats, but those are mats, not meant for filtering water, either.

In the past I have always been afraid to fill my water guns with anything other then fresh hose water. They do have basic filters in them, but in my experience they clog pretty quick resulting in a broken gun. Some guys and the Community Summer War filled theirs in a pond, but IDK, mine have always jammed when ever I have tried that. I'm sure they don't have any advanced filters though, if I fill them with the hose it still tastes like hose water when it comes out of the gun.

You shoot an M4? How appropriate.

Anyway, my 1200 broke after I was filling it in a stream, but that could have been a coincidence, as none of my other blasters have broken after doing that, aside from my MD 6000, but that was inevitable. I wouldn't worry about clogging unless I was filling from a non-flowing source.

I seriously doubt they'd have any antibacterial filters though.

No, not really. Call me weird, but I find hose water actually tastes kind of good.

I agree. We have a water softener for our house, but not our barn, and the hard water has so much flavor.

Haha, I never thought about that. Yeah, I have an ACOG (red dot 2x amplifying scope), an IR/night vision laser, and an m203 grenade launcher on it. In all honesty, as cool as it is to shoot the m4 with all those additions it gets annoying having to clean it for 2 hours every time I fire it. The m203 is muccchhhhhhh more fun to shoot AND it takes only 5 minutes to clean. Unfortunately, it takes a ton of paper work to get HE (high explosive) 40mm grenades and to be able to go to a range where you can shoot them off.

I love shooting my m4 and love the 203 even more, but all the paperwork, clean up, etc. that goes in to it is a huge buzz kill; and I really don't want to have to shoot someone with it (my job is diplomatic, but since we have big time $ I get all the nice toys). I'd much rather be doing all this with Vindicators and XP 150s, but alas, welcome to the adult world.

I'm always worried that even in water that appears clean there will be little particles of dirt or grass or something. One time at a B-day party at one of my friends houses, they were using some blow up kiddy pools to full the guns by dunking them in them, and a little bit of grass got in them and lot of my guns clogged up. Mind you this was a pool, I'd be even more afraid to use a natural water source. This was only one time, but I'd rather be safe then sorry.

I have had little experience with real guns, I shot a 12 gauge when I was ten, it blew me over. Up until that point I always thought they did the recoil hand motion in movies because it looked cool. I have since shot a 22 pistol and rifle, but I still prefer my BB gun, no cleaning needed (not that I did it with the 12 gauge in cub scouts any way) but I don't have to wear ear plugs to fire it.

Know the feeling! I personally don't like using such sources, but it did happen when I lent my XP70 and FF to a friend. BIG MISTAKE! Had to strip it down to get bits of grass out of the filter and the mounting stud on the reservoir.

It's for this reason I fitted an easy clean inline Y filter to my homemade, incase someone fills the reservoir/backpack with water from a pool (as if I'd give them the homemade in the first place!).

I'm pretty sure my XP70 and FF dont have antibacterial filters. I've had grass bits trapped on the wrong side of the FF nozzle grille before (after same pool incident).

On the subject of real weapons, I've tried a fair few. The no. 8 .22 cadet training rifle (bolt action, single shot), the anschutz .22 model 1803 (I think), the L98A2 Cadet GP (semi-auto only SA80), the L86A2 'LSW' SA80 (semi-auto and full auto), and a 12 gauge double barrel clay-pidgeon shotgun. The SA80's are absolute pigs to clean.
