I would recommend a CPS 1500/1700. Its a great all round weapon and has great flexability. Stores a good amount of water without it being too heavy. But you would have to try eBay for one as they are unfortunately discontinued.

This type of thread is being pushed into Soaker Basics.

At any rate, the combination of 'long range' combined with 'large capacity' is rather rare in soakers. To shoot farther, the soaker typically needs to push out a larger stream (thus more water). Out of soakers available this year, you might consider looking into the Super Soaker Aquapack Devastator, Super Soaker CPS4100, or Water Warriors Blazer (the 2005 model with the fan setting), though admittedly their ranges still likely are a little shorter than older cannon models like the CPS2500.

As for 'all purpose' soakers, it really depends on your personal preference (i.e. power vs mobility). I'd lean towards the Flash Flood or Piranha for general soaking these days though a CPS4100 is always fun, too (though I'd still prefer my Monster (2001) over the CPS4100).

Out of all of the newest ones that are quite available I would get a CPS 4100. It has great flexability with 4 good nozzle settings providing good soakage and range. Although depending on what mark of 4100 you get, you may have to repair the trigger when it breaks. There was a thread somewhere about different 4100 marks.

Welcome to the forums. We hope you enjoy your stay.

Arguably the best gun for your purposes would be the 15/1700. Unfortunately, that's only available on ebay. Your best bet at the moment would be any of the CPS class soakers (SS as well as WW) currently available. Myself, I prefer the Pirahna. Nice power in a compact package.

The new version of the Pirahna is out now with more and improved nozzles I think. So for an easy find and for a gun with good power and size in a good price this is recommended. I want one too but I am from the UK so it will be harder for me.

But, if you are willing to bid and have the money then search for a CPS 1500/1700 on eBay and get one of those. I have a 1500 and its amazing. But, its your choice.

If you want the best possible range, homemades would be a reasonable consideration. It definetly would be a lot easier to obtain and build with materials available everywhere than wait for a water gun to pop up on eBay and hope that you win it.

None of the 2005 water guns are known best for their range. If you modified most of them, you could add a few more feet of range, not that I would recommend modifications over homemades.

While homemades can get you the best range, modding certain guns like the CPS 2100 will get you close. You can expect 45-65ft of range if you mod a 2100, the range depending on which mods you preform. Check valve freeze, k-mod, nozzle mod, and streams research/math are the four that I would reccommend if you want to get above 60ft. Only problem is that the CPS 2100 doesn't hold too much water...reservoir expansion or a custom backpack would be needed. But 2100's can be found in some stores, and are cheap on Ebay.

i agree. it is a good medium-heavy blaster with pretty good range and good soaking power, especially on 10x. if you look hard enough ant discount stores and places like that you may get lucky and find one. i got my 1500 and my 2700 brand new last year at a discount shop for 20 bucks each.
