Hands-On: Nerf Super Soaker Tornado Strike

Post by isoaker » Fri Mar 25, 2011 11:42 am

Been testing out the Super Soaker Tornado Strike recently as well. While its nozzle behavior is like that of the older Super Soaker Helix, it has lost functionality over its predecessor. Pumping someone seems more difficult than on the Helix (the nozzles seem to spin a little faster), but pump volume is down as reservoir capacity is really down (clips only carry ~275mL versus the Helix's reservoir that holds ~900mL). On top of that, the Helix featured adjustable nozzles (the angle between the two spinning nozzles could be varied) while the Tornado Strike's nozzles are fixed in place. The Tornado Strike wins in terms of looks, styling, and its ability to have additional accessories attached, but when it comes to usefulness in a water fight, this blaster again feels like it could have been more than it is.

Pictures of the Super Soaker Tornado Strike posted for now. Review to come soon...

I always liked the Helix. This looks cool, but it's certainly not worth the price... although I have yet to see it in any stores around here, but that's not saying much cuz I live in the middle of nowhere now.

That stock is exactly the same as the one that comes with the 2011 Shot Blast.

I saw one for $17 at Meijer yesterday, costing more than the Sphinx. (Not that Hasbro overpricing garbage blasters is any surprise now.)

I finally got around to testing one of these; I give it two thumbs down. It was basically like using my helix except it actually seemed less powerful and ran out of water even faster. I did have an extra clip on hand but I have got to say, the clips are a useless idea. It was very easy to take off the old clip and put on the new one but than I ran into the problem of what to do with the old clip. I didn't want to drop it because I didn't want it to get stepped on or lost (it was actually my friends), so I tried to put it back the rim of my swim trunks under my shirt. The time it took to get it back on there wile one handing the gun and running from my friend who was shooting at me took almost as much time as it would have to just dump a plastic bottle in a normal gun (I wouldn't have to worry about that getting stepped on). Other then the stock which does help keep the gun a little steadier when pumping they got nothing right with this gun, I give it a 1 out of 10.
