Why Water Warfare is Awesome

Post by SEAL » Tue Jul 23, 2013 12:23 pm

In this thread, give reasons why you love water warfare. I was inspired by Road&Track magazine's "50 reasons why we love cars".

I'll get us started:

-Low cost
-The up-close-and-personal fighting style
-Tactics
-CPS tech
-Point-blanking someone with a 2000 when they're not looking
-Mods and homemades
-Rivalry
-Not having to pick up millions of foam darts
-BIG CANNONS
-The look on people's faces when you show up at a park in full camo with a bunch of water guns
-Water balloon launchers
-That moment when you first fire a CPS blaster

That's all I can think of now. Add your own reasons!

Soaking overconfident Noob's in just one hit
Repairing water guns that many would throw away as "broken"
using water guns that are older than the "target audience" (Double meaning :goofy: )
telling your best friend that his primary is older than he is.
If you ever bother reading these, I worry for your mental sanity. :oo:

- Getting hits requires actual skill.
- Super-accessible, can be played anywhere. (Your milage may vary depending on the kind of people who live in your community.)
- Environment/tactical dynamics. No other wargame in existence lets you interact with the environment to the same level that water warfare does.
- Water weapon variety and accessibility of said variety: Air, CPS, piston, dip tubes in the lake, refill bottles in the river, backpacks, water balloons, launchers, AP cannons, buckets, sprinklers, hoses, shields, splash attacks, homemades of all kinds, the list continues on.
- The fact that we use terms like "kills", "gun", "bomb", "warfare", etc. yet the whole hobby is far less violent, with lower risk of injury, bad sportsmanship, etc. than football, hockey, and other sports. (Although technically, this applies to laser tag, paintball, and others as well, if only because these games strictly prohibit physical contact.)
- The lack of super-formal organization that many sports have. Imagine if water warfare had a standardized field that was always the same, and everyone wore either red or blue, all teammates having the same set of blasters, etc.

If water warfare gets boring or dies out, it's always because you haven't tried something different in it.

- Ambushing someone at point-blank range
- Water cannons
- No eye protection necessary
- No gun bans
- Free/almost free and essentially infinite ammo
- Can't run out of darts
- NOT HAVING TO MAKE SLUGS AT 1 AM THE NIGHT BEFORE A WAR
- Gun can't jam
- Cops more likely to be cool with it
- Can easily hit someone behind a wall, rock, or in a trench
- Can cool yourself off if it's too hot by just shooting yourself
- Naval battles
- Hitting me actually requires skill and not just wicked long range

Having someone with a nerf super soaker laugh at how ugly a 1200/2700 looks, then firing 5X/10X at them.

Discovering new ways to use a soaker (CPS 1200) even a decade later.

Despite not having a big pump, it has a good enough mix of range, shot time, capacity, easy/brief pumping, and light weight to use like a 150. I used to struggle to make hits with medium CPS, unless facing weaker stuff (like Colossi or Scott's Helix lol). But, half my hits at Downpour this year were with the stock 1200 and all of those were against guns of greater power (2500, 1500, 12K, 2500, 2500) . The difference really is how you use a gun. I'd imagine a 1000 or 2100 can also do this, but they are kinda lacking on field life.

This is one reason I'm really glad we do the Community Wars even with the general lack of turnout. We discover things that we otherwise would not.

It's always been possible to take a lower range blaster a bit close for comfort and blast away, although I doubt I could do well with a stock 1200 after some trouble I had with the 12k.

It brought together the neighbourhood. It was a thing to come out and dick around with soakers. Sure, only myself and my buddy actually knew what we were doing but it was still amazingly intense, especially when everyone followed the rules (rare.) Honestly some of the best fun I've ever had.
