Turning a Fan Nozzle Into a Riot Blast

Post by marauder » Tue Jan 08, 2013 5:33 pm

Fan nozzles are probably the worst nozzles you could use in a water war. At least, unless you get a 2013 Super Soaker and decide to use the "atomizing mist" I have decided to go change out the fan nozzles on all my guns, beginning with the Max D Secret Strike, as I figured this would be a good little gun to learn on.

Epoxied the nozzle

Cut out the filter in the pressure chamber in order to increase flow from the pc out the nozzle

I decided to go with a small (1/16th of an inch) drill bit

Drilling!

the end result

Much better now!

Range
Before: 20 ft max
After: 20 ft max

Output/sec
Before: 2.4 oz
After: 3.5 oz

High Power Shot Time (70% [~17.5 ft] or higher range)
Before: 2.8 sec
After: 1.5 sec

Really, the stats don't do this justice. You can be spraying 2.4 oz/sec at someone 18 feet away but they really aren't getting that wet. Hitting them with a riot blast does way more damage. I'm rather happy with the results.

This gun is for sale.

Reminds me of the showerhead nozzle on my old Monster X, haha. I thought about doing this to my Secret Strike, but I would've made it more like the FF's riot blast instead of a showerhead-thing. I'm getting rid of it though, so that won't happen.

Cool mod though; I imagine that would be a lot of fun in a soakfest.

The MD Secret Strike holds 6 oz in its pc and some of that isnt useful due to having an intake tube rather than an intake opening on the pc floor. Traditional riotblasts are messy, rough, larger nozzles. Due to the way the pc is set up youd probably need a smaller nozzle than the 105 or 150 riotblasts. Id look at the xp 35's riotblast as a guide to a more traditional riotblast nozzle than what I did.

Neat. Are you doing this to the XP 250 and 275?

I have always wanted to do this, but without the hard work and JB weld. I want to just take a drill bit to the fan and see what happens.
Although I think I would probably have ended up opening it and cutting the intake tube like you did.
Nice mod.

For shower nozzles use lots of small holes. My 1/16th inch drill bit worked well. For a riot blast make a large hole, but make it very jagged.

jagged, got it. maybe use a spade bit? Perhaps i could make a cross-shaped hole and that would work for a riot blast.

I think you may want to ask GJIV about that. I think he used a cross shape on one of his custom nozzle mods.
