Newbie looking for...

Post by Cain » Thu Sep 25, 2008 10:34 pm

A decent heavy blaster, but with a few caveats:
  • Must be rifle-style, and not handgun-style.
  • Strap is preferred.
  • Affordable! Under $40 is best.
  • Easy to find, either here on on Ebay, or even in stores.
I'm new to this, so I don't know if this is a tall order or not. Am I being too unreasonable here? What should I be looking for?

If you want a rifle style, strapped, heavy, and under $40 blaster, go for a Water Warriors Orca (the one that is coloured blue and yellow). But, if price is not an issue, get a CPS 1500 from eBay, Craigslist, or Kijiji.

Hm, couldn't find either on Ebay. What other heavy blasters are there, excluding the expensive CPS 2000 and 2500? Will taking out the rifle-style point help any? Affordability is still a priority, though.

If you're willing to buy online, check out the iSoaker.com Buy Online page. As an aside, if anyone is buying blasters (or anything, actually) through Amazon, please consider going through the iSoaker.com Buy Online page since it costs nothing to you, but helps support the running costs of iSoaker.com (I get a small percentage as a referral fee, but it still helps).

The Water Warriors Orca is available in stores, as is the Water Warriors Tiger Shark, which is a slightly shrunken, less powerful Orca. I found our team's CPS 1500 by typing in "super soaker kijiji" on Google. Try typing in "super soaker cps craigslist" or "super soaker cps kijiji". You will be surprised at what you can find for cheap prices($5-20). One problem is that some people are not willing to ship.

Another choice is making a homemade, like an APH, which I am in the process of finishing.

See SSCentral's APH page for more details

At this time of the year, you should have a chance at finding a 1200, 1000, or 2100 for under $40 on eBay, though it may take some time.

If you do choose to go with a modern blaster, be aware that they have at least 5-10ft less range than the CPS's, which makes a big difference in 1HK fights. (while both CPS's and modern blasters have comparable outputs)
