Hi all,

I recently got a used XXP 275 which does not pump - after pumping I can hear some internal air leak and the pressure gauge does not move at all. I've just got some tools to hopefully open it up and see what's wrong but just wondering if anyone has had this issue and if you have any advice - I've never opened up or repaired a super soaker before but the XXP 275 was my favourite from childhood so I'm determined to fix it.

Also is the lever on top supposed to click when you pull it back all the way?

If it's a simple air leak, then like all you need to to clean the surface around the hole with something like isopropyl alcohol, sand a bit around the hole to create some extra surface area, and apply some epoxy to cover the hole. Wait for the epoxy to cure (the instructions it comes with will say how long) and test again. You might find identifying where the leak is easier if you submerge the blaster under water and look for the bubbles.

I'm afraid that I don't know if the lever is supposed to click or not.

I'm currently held up by trying to get the soaker apart - some of the screws have been stripped and are rusted - I've got half out just using a normal screwdriver but the others are embedded in plastic and hard to reach

Sometimes you have to drill out the screws. Ideally you'd only drill out the screw heads so that the old screws can be replaced, but that's not always possible.

Finally got it apart after drilling out the rusted screws - the clicking in the trigger is due to a few broken teeth on the gear connected to the spring - I'm thinking I could take this out and try and get a replacement 3d printed (although I don't have my own). I submerged the gun to see if there were any leaks but I couldn't see any - it won't pressurise and after pumping the air leak sound is coming from the nozzles - any ideas on how to fix?

Oh, right, it has the gears and a ball valve. The standard rubber band repair won't work. I'm not sure what's going on then. I would remove the handle and see how it works while manually turning the valve closed. If the valve can be manually turned closed then the fundamental problem is like that of the rubber band repair (the default valve position is not fully closed). Maybe you could add a rubber band in parallel with the existing closing spring if it turns out that the valve is not closing all the way?
