Super soaker CPS 2000 mk2

Post by sparky » Sat May 28, 2022 10:36 am

Hi all,

When I pump my cps 2000 towards the trigger it slowly pushes itself back forwards, the gun still seem to function fine but I'm wondering what's causing the pump arm to depress itself an can I fix this? I'm guessing it's a valve somewhere letting pressure backwards any assistance greatly appreciated

Could be the pump outlet check valve leaking, as you've figured. You could measure the size of the tubing leading from the pump and add a new check valve with barbed fittings on there. Here are some examples: https://www.mcmaster.com/check-valves/c ... ittings-9/

I don't know the precise size of the tubing, sorry. You'll also need to pick appropriate tubing clamps to keep the new check valve on.

I wouldn't bother trying to remove the likely broken check valve as that's more trouble than its worth. There isn't any major disadvantage to keeping the old pump outlet check valve. Pumping might be a bit harder with it on there as there's a bit more flow resistance now, but it's probably not noticeable or barely noticeable.

Thanks for your help,

Any tips on where I can get a check valve to fit in the housing? Finding one small enough is difficult. Iv found one on ebay that's 14.9mm thick, if you look at the image iv added I believe I can fit it in between my fingers, there's a 15mm gap between pump arm and bladder tube. Iv also attached photo of valve that's the smallest width I could find with a 10mm hole. The tubing is about 11mm on outside so il wedge this in. Will probably take a few more pumps to pump up as the diameter hole will be slightly thinner than the tubing but I think that's a minor problem.

You've probably already checked this, but I'd see if there's more space closer to the pump outlet side on the left. I'd guess there's a spot with a bit more space, or a spot where you can cut away at the case a bit to get enough space.

As for finding other check valves, I assume that you're in the UK. I don't know much about where to buy parts like these small check valves in the UK. The small valves I was thinking about using on McMaster-Carr are 12.7 mm wide, so those'll work. But McMaster-Carr won't ship outside of the US.

You might want to look into valves from Clippard like this one. It is 14.3 mm wide. This valve doesn't have barbed fittings, and I suspect the flow will be constricted once you put barbed fittings on. You might want to look at what else Clippard has. Also, you can buy direct from Clippard but it'll be really expensive. I'd recommend taking a look at their distributors to find a local one as that'll be a lot cheaper.

Thank you, il let you know how it goes! Is there any lubricant I can pump through the gun? Something to make the internals smoother, iv got silicone lube for the pump handle but the old check valve is like u say quite stiff... I'm wondering if there's a fluid or lube or even olive oil I can run through it once to make it smoother internally?

I don't have any advice on lubricating those valves, but someone else might.

Oatey Silicone grease is what I usually use for lubing soaker internals. It's extremely runny like oil, so you can easily get it to cycle through the entire system either by pumping it in or by holding the trigger down and pouring it through the open valve. Ignore the description on some sites, it's not petroleum-based, it's silicone.
