I guess the CPS2500 I bought was a lemon, because when I tried to change the nozzle selector, the whole cap just broke off, revealing some kind of adhesive residue, and it's also missing those springs that apparently hold it in place. So obviously it was damaged and somebody tried to super-glue it back together, leaving it permanently on the 20x setting.

Looks like the "screw" that goes into the center is broken off. So can anyone help me try to repair it?

Sounds repairable. At worst, you will have to use the water gun without the nozzle. I would report the seller to eBay for not selling completely honestly.

Could you get a picture of the problem? Pictures help a diagnosis a bunch and I'll be able to provide better help with one. From what I can tell, all you should have to do to repair would be epoxy the broken part back on and buy some small springs to replace the old ones.

If that doesn't work, I could offer another repair solution that involves a homemade nozzle selector.

Ouch! Definitely contact eBay and try to get some reimbursement from the seller for false advertising. If the soaker nozzle selector had been repairs, that's a far cry from a blaster "in very good condition" as the auction states.

As Ben noted, pics would help a lot. There are a variety of means that can be used to either repair the nozzle selector device or create a new nozzle system. However, before doing any repair, find out about eBay's policy when dealing with bad sales like this one as you may be given the option to return to the dishonest seller for a full refund. Sending pics to eBay of the defective product would probably help bolster your case.

Well luckily my sister actually GAVE me her old digital camera as a present, so I could easily take some pictures.

Worst-case scenario, after testing it, no nozzle selector is manageable and actually pretty fun. Without the long barrel, it gets a fun wide-area shotgun-style riot blast! :D

Fortunately, I asked the Monster XL seller if the MXL had similar "hidden" problems. She said she tested it on each nozzle setting before listing it, so I'm gonna take her word for it. But since the 2500 seller hasn't replied to me yet, I don't know the whole story so I can't really make any judgments right now.

Anyway I gotta install the camera software so I can upload the pics, but I'll get right on it.

UPDATE: The seller emailed me, he says it was in excellent condition when he sent it, and asked to send some pictures.

Okay here are the pics:

If the pieces of the nozzle selector assembly are missing (i.e. the center screw, the two springs, and the plastic spring caps that align the nozzle selector), I'd be rather suspicious of the seller. If the nozzle selector were broken in transit, I highly doubt that someone would take the time to try to re-glue that part back on.

Well... the box said FedEx. I actually work at a FedEx terminal, and we have QA people who deal with packages that have been damaged, opened, etc. So who knows, it could've just been a crappy job on QA's part; we DO get people like that from time to time.

Not that I'm going with that, just saying I need more info from the seller before I can be certain of anything.

EDIT: Good news: the seller says he has another fully-working CPS2500 that he'll send me if I return the broken one.

EDIT2: More bad news (OT), Monster XL still hasn't come yet. It was shipped through priority mail (2-3 days), but it's been 3 days since it was shipped.

EDIT3: I shipped the CPS2500 back through priority mail, they said it should get there around Monday.

That's good that the seller is willing to exchange and has a working one. Hopefully the exchanged blaster will work as it is supposed to.

As for the Monster XL not arriving, well, it's a big blaster. I'm not too surprised if it took an extra day or so. I've had much smaller items delayed for no apparent reason. Of course, keep an eye on its location if you have a tracking number for it.

Great news! The extra CPS2500 just arrived, and I tested it out and everything is working as it should! This guy's definitely getting a positive review for customer service. Now I have both the CPS2500 and MXL, the two biggest blasters from our childhood days together at last!

Nice! Sounds like you're relieved, and for good reason!

So...what do you think of the two water guns? Worth the price? Better than the rest? I have yet to see either one, so I don't know. Hearing more opinions is always good.

I'd say they're worth it, especially for nostalgia. These WERE my two biggest guns when I was a kid, and I only ever owned one or the other, and now I got both. :)
