It ended up not mattering since I also showed up a bit late after getting lost in my quest to find a gas station. The route to get to West Hurley is in the middle of nowhere. I ended up finding one with about 3 miles left in the reserve tank. Much of what we explored was epic and I have 218 pictures to sort through. Some of the pics involve us with water guns in ridiculous poses.

I also hit a deer on the Taconic Parkway on my way home. I strictly drive the speed limit on highways at night and this is one of those times where it pays off. I was only doing 55 when I saw the deer, thus after braking only hit it at about 20-30. It didn't even die from the impact and the car, other than some scratches, is intact.

It was only hit with several thousand pounds only going about 25 miles per hour. No biggy. :p

I need pics.

There aren't pics. Nobody photographs injured, suffering deer.

Oh, I'm still going through those. After pruning the bad ones, there are still over 150 shots of the terrain and 31 of us posing, of which many are funny and would have creamed the ones entered in last year's iScN League Photo Contest.

There are actually three venues that I vote for using this year. Both of the places we explored (Onteora Lake and the land across the street from West Hurley Park) were epic. This next part is for M4, who will know what I am talking about - We found the STREAM! You remember that huge cliff where you can see forever and there's no water below it?

Image

Well, when you keep going to the end of line of sight, there is a 2nd set of cliffs even steeper and taller than the first. The stream is hiding below those:

Image

So, if the first set of cliffs is yea high:

Image

The second set of cliffs just blows the first away:

Image

It's the most epic setting for an attack - defend scenario battle in the area.

If you guys were wondering what the other terrain pictures contain, there's 2 lakes, islands, a cold gulch (the freezer) with some of the best CQ terrain I've laid eyes upon, rockshelters, ruins, flowing water, ridges, more cliffs, and trails. The poses contain everything from being ambushed from a tree to ambushed on the phone, ambushed on a slide, ambushed outside a bathroom, ambushed from under a rock, ambushed while refilling, to dueling on top of a beaver dam, dueling on top of a train, to filling up your reservoir with beer, to executing a 3 foot tall Scooby Doo...

WOW! What a location. That's absolutely nuts. If you can somehow manage to do attack/defend on any of those cliffs, the attack team should have more people.... can't wait to see the other pics. Totally lifted my spirits over here.

^ Or the teams can be kept balanced and alternate. My idea is to divide the teams evenly and rotate. (i.e. divide to 2 teams, alternate attack/defend roles, or divide into 3 or 4 teams and alternate which team defends while others combine forces to attack.) Either way, there's a lot of potential for interesting game rule setups.

ATTENTION! I made a calendar. LINK

I added in every day from April to September, that way we have plenty of room. I don't know any exact dates for me; as far as I know, I'll be free practically all year, and I can easily make time for the war.

I'll update the first post as well.

I will probably be back in the states during the last part of May, so I marked it on the Doodle calender. With that being said, I'm still not 100% I could make it during that time, and I know most people will still be in school, but just in case...

Also, you need to put up those pics of you and DX that you made sound so awesome.

Who, me? I didn't take any of the pictures; I left the house in such a hurry that I didn't bring a camera. They're all on DX's camera (And he already posted the best ones. :goofy: ).

Holy double post, Batman!

Alright, now we should probably decide where exactly to hold it. We have Dug Hill and Onteora Lake to choose from. I think we should fight at both locations, but then there's the question of which one to spend the night at. We'd only be able to stay at Dug Hill if we have a reservation, so perhaps it's better to stay at the lake.

Here's what I think; you guys can arrive at Onteora Lake the night before, set up camp (I will try to come along as well.), and maybe have a few night battles. Then the next morning, everybody gets up, has breakfast, and we can begin fighting. Once night falls, we can set up the tents in different locations in the forest, and have our all-night war. Next morning, we head over to Dug Hill and begin the next day of fighting, both at the park and across the street. Then once it gets late, you all can go home.

By the way, we still only have one entry on the calendar...

I like that idea of how to hold the battle, I might even be able to convince my dad to stay in a tent "for me." (He likes having an actual bed) I have now added my dates to the calender. So far I am only not available the first week in august during the summer (my LEGO con). I put down that I was available the same dates as M4 in May, I could probably make it, I'd have to ditch school Friday but at this point, I could flunk the exams and still come out with a B average. I might take away some dates over time, so far I have no vacations planed and I would like to take an RV trip some time, but for now I have no plans.

You're a senior right? That's probably not a good idea. Even if you make Bs, which are decent, it will look much better on your record if you don't skip your finals. If you want to go to college or a tech school or pretty much anything, how you finish says a lot. I was a very mediocre student (2.74 avg) but finished on the Dean's list 2 out of my last 3 semesters, and I got a lot of scholarship offers because of that. People really look at how you finish. So, that's advice for all y'all. Finish strong.

I commend SEAL for getting the ball rolling so early, but remember, it's not even February yet. It's good for everyone to be looking into potential dates, but I don't see anything wrong with people not being able to commit to any time as of yet. I put down those particular dates because that's the only time I will be in the states until this Fall. That doesn't mean I could definitely make it though. I'd love to come, but with only 15 days, having family to visit, time to relax, etc. we will have to see.

So, point is, please take your time, look at your schedules, and plan to make this even better than last year.

I was half joking there, of coarse I am not going to skip finals, in fact, I am typing this right in the middle of finals! (I have a break right now and am using it to check up and work on my presentation for African American History on Wednesday). I'm just saying that if I skipped that Friday in May, especially if my dad gave me a note, it wouldn't be a problem.

Most high school students with good grades in a class are exempted from their final, at the teacher's discretion. Out of 8 classes in 2nd semester senior year, I only remember taking 3 finals, the ones that nobody could get out of. Also, most school districts give you some absence freebies, so save those days up. Skipping one Friday in May won't hurt anyone if you're smart about allocating your absences.

I don't think they do that in the Carolinas. Lucky! Well in that case... haha do whatever.

Actually, you do have a point. Now that we have Onteora Lake for a battleground, there's no reason to stay overnight at Dug Hill anymore. If we camp at the lake, not only can we take our time deciding on a date, but I won't have to pay for a reservation!

How far (preferably in minutes) is Onteora Lake from Dug Hill anyway? I would really like to do some battling at both but if they are farther then 20 minutes-half an hour I think we should just pick one. Because of the ease of the overnight, I'd say Onteora Lake if we just chose one. If the first day at the lake is particularly awesome though then I say we just stay there, but that decision should be left until after the first day of battle.
