Story II - Comments, criticism, feedback?
Ok, here's the lowdown on what's going on:
I got a laptop (a very nice one, thanks mom and dad) as a graduation gift. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a disk drive, so my only method of communicating/transferring information (to other computers) is in the form of attachments over the internet. This is/was a great setup for my writing in all its various forms, since I don't write around anyone else.
Yesterday, we had broadband internet installed, and were informed that if we attempted to use our dialup internet connection, AOL would charge us an arm and a leg. Which kinda sucks, because dialup is all I have for my laptop (remember, I can only transfer information over the internet), and it's going to be a while before my dad gets a wireless router and I can get the wireless card on my computer set up. Last night our broadband went out (fortunately, the new dialup billing plan doesn't take effect until we're registered as broadband customers, which hasn't happened yet but will soon). We should be getting broadband fixed sometime today.
In simpler terms, that means that unless we scrap broadband altogether, until we get a wireless router, there's probably not going to be anymore updates. Personally, I prefer dialup (slow but at least it worked) and I'd rather we tell AOL to take their broadband back and then put a 235 grain slug in the broadband modem that doesn't work (AOL tech support SUCKS!!!).
But hey, that's just me. So, it doesn't look like there's going to be much new stuff for a while. But I am finishing out the rest of the week today. Three updates in one day.

The rest of week 5 is up.
The story's going to take a bit of a left turn. Whatever you think is going to happen...probably won't.
All comments are welcomed and appreciated.

Well, then we know what to expect, don't we?
Sounds interesting. However, for someone who makes up his stories as he types, it shouldn't be that suprisining to me. I don't really think much about what might be happening later on in a good story (which this is), just take the time to read it and enjoy it for what is happening now.

I'm quite interested in people's reactions to the (temporary) ending. What does everyone think? Anything that could be done better or differently? Favorite parts? Random comments or criticism?
Thanks in advance,

News update: We're much closer to wireless internet, so when I finish the story, it can go up without difficulty.
I'm halfway through the morning of the third day (yeah, it's taking me a while, and will take even longer than expected). Let's just say I'm...trying out a variety of camera angles...some of which make writing kind of uncomfortable.
Just a little side note:With the exception of Glenn and Rachel, none of these characters are "normal" as traditionally defined. Everybody's a little...on the edge.
I'm thinking of pushing up a "fact sheet" sort of post once everything's finished. Little tidbits about the story, some of the in-jokes. Also thinking of posting a "soundtrack." As Isoaker commented, this story's a bit more movie-like, and I wrote it as such, with a sort of backing track.
Question:Who are reader's favorite characters?
Adrian
PS As always, comments on the story are appreciated.

Just finished day 3 at about 12:30 last night. I only get about 2-4 hours a week to write (school/work/life interferes), so it's taken me about a month and a half to do one day (partly because this was one of only 2 days I didn't plan in advance). Day 4 starts what I'm calling "the downward spiral" - things start picking up speed. Remember, this isn't the story of a water war, it's a story with that as a background.
Another thought:Due to the amount of time this is going to take (less'n the Reaper intervenes in the meantime, I WILL finish it), I'm thinking of deleting what's up there, then re-releasing the whole thing once completed. I don't want to leave something half-finished for so long, nor do I want it to get buried once I start bringing out new stuff. Thoughts?

Not sure I'd agree with you deleting what's up and then pushing it all up once it's finished. I understand where you're coming from, but I'd rather suggest wiping out what's up when (and only when) you're ready to upload the entire enchilada. It's a long story (the longest water-warfare-based story posted thusfar in the online communities) and, for many members, it's good to have it around even though unfinished since it takes time to read it all. As well, by having it unfinished, it just means you'll have readers wanting you to finish it!
I plan to post up more comments, but I need to catch up with my reading first!

Just finished the "during the day" half of day 4 last night. The second half takes place at night. Without a doubt, this is the oddest though most memorable day yet, possibly of them all. A complete and utter left turn, and at night it gets even better, more different. Continuing on my theme of "story of people" this day doesn't feature tons of fighting, but rather tons of character development. Expect constant warfare in day 5.
I've decided what I'm going to do with the already posted portion. I'm now getting about 4-5 hours a week to write (managed to find some unused blocks of private time) and with any luck, this'll be finished before 2006. Once it's finished I'll delete what's up here, and then release one or two sections a day starting the first week of '06. I'm going back and rewriting what's already been written, so there'll be some new stuff in there.
Comments always appreciated,
Adrian

Quick update:It's up to 733kb in Wordpad. That's massive. What did Wetmonkey's story get up to? (not that I'm trying to compete or anything) If, as my Hardware teacher says, one character of text is one byte, I'm upwards of 750,000 letters. It should go over a megabyte by the time it's done.
Started day 5 a few days ago. This is what happens when you plan something, it takes a lot less time. (well, for me at any rate) Day 4 is, like...it's impossible to describe. Either this is gonna be liked, or it's gonna be hated, vehemently. Or so I think.

Day 5 is about half done. Can't stand writing something that I haven't planned, I have to make it up as I go. I'm still trying to write quality though.
To take a bit of a break, I wrote a part I refer to as "Interregnum." This, I have planned, and I think it shows.
I WILL finish this by 01/01/06.

Finished Day 5, though I may go back and write more. I'm not sure I'm completely satisfied with it. Day 6 is about a third done - that's 1/3 in 8 days, Day 5 took me nearly two months. Ah the joys of planning ahead. Day 6 is...well, it's complicated. And definitely meant for an older audience, though still readable by kids. PG-13 at the most. Isoaker said this is playing out like an epic...I've worked in an absolute TON of stuff.
Can't wait to start reposting the story.

Started Day 7, the final Day. Day 6 is...interesting...very little fighting, tons about two of the characters. The hardest part was keeping it realistic and at the same time audience-appropriate. Not bad time-wise, 22 days to do what usually takes me 2 months. Like before, taking less time is one of the joys of planning ahead.
Day 7 wraps everything up. I'm keeping this one book description (of a novel called Enemies:Foreign And Domestic) in my head at all times - it was talking about how the author jumped back and forth and viewed one particular action scene from several different angles.
The whole smash totals about 960k right now.

I'm really deep into Day 7 and I haven't really gotten started yet. Not only am I working a ton and trying to keep up with school (last full week, hurray!), but there's so much I wanna write that I'm having a hard time knowing where to begin.
On the 15th (if I remember), I'll remove the original version from the appropriate forum (may delete it, may just empty it of text and post over it, I'm not sure), and then on the 1st, I'll start either posting it or reposting it. Fifteen weeks and change should give me enough time to finish Day 7 if I haven't by then (and I'm gonna try my hardest).
The whole thing clocks in at 1.175k in Word. Absolutely massive.
Comments are, as always, appreciated.

And...it's gone. 450 views, not bad.
Posting will begin Jan 1st, will run at the rate of 2 a week, once on Monday, once on Friday, until Week Six, at which it will be once a week until the end.
I'm just getting back into writing - I actually had to re-acquaint myself with what was going on I've been away for so long.

Posting has resumed. Unfortunately things may get in the way, but it will continue at a rate of two a week, though the exact days may not be fixed.
Some of the previously posted entries have been slightly...altered...updated, so it's a good idea to go back and reread as they're posted. I'm working on finishing the whole thing up. Should take me a few days, hopefully, and then I'll post when I've finished it. Right now it's clocking in 1.2Mb, and it WILL be bigger when done.
As always, any comments/criticisms are appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Looking forward to seeing it all up!

Week 2 starts today. Things start picking up speed. Also, Week 2 is where a lot of my "edits" start. I went back and put stuff in, took stuff out...mostly just sentences, sometimes paragraphs. Nothing too huge, but some stuff is different from the original.
Up to 1.23MB for the nearly finished version...just gotta work a little longer...
Question:Should I post a rating on this? It deserves a PG-13 at times.
All comments are, as usual, much appreciated.

I always get thrilled when I read this story. I've already read it about twenty times over the holidays, and congratulate the effort you put in writing it. You must have had a grand experience in real life. I wish I could have waterfights like that, and try to make up with 'Assistance In Atlanta' and maybe other I would have. So thank you for sharing your journey for those of us who can't. :;):

Thanks much for the kind words, I always like to hear that people like what I write. Unfortunately (or fortunately, given some of what is to come) my water fighting experiences come nowhere near rivaling what I've written. This is definitely NOT about me.
You ain't seen nothin' yet.
