Re: Accumulator tanks as pressure chambers

Hey Ben, "A few people back at SSC made backpack blasters with accumulator tanks..." - I recall Dusty's Water Gun and Andrew's AR-1.1 "Typhoon" . Were there others? "I started looking into smaller accumulator tanks, but I couldn't find any small ones with an outlet bigger than 1/2" pipe." - Andrew u...

Re: Source for water reservoirs

Hi Ben,

I agree; US Plastic has a good selection. I previously proposed a 4-Liter Reservoir sold by US Plastic. Are there any in particular on US Plastic's site that you are considering for a future build?

Thank you,

Hi Tyler,

As Ben pointed out to me in this thread, polycarbonate would be a better choice.

Re: My CPH just shot over 70 Ft!

Hey Tyler,

Yes; POPCAP's maximum water pressure is 70 PSI because that is the maximum pressure rating of the pinch valve tube interior.

Re: My CPH just shot over 70 Ft!

Can't wait to get that nozzle on my blaster! My forestry firefighting nozzles were such a bust.

Can you post images of your new laminator? Did you end up adding a third screen and a plenum like you mentioned? These features improved performance in my setup.

Re: My CPH just shot over 70 Ft!

Hi Tyler, "Doesn't McMaster have a smooth bore 6" nozzle? Or I think I've seen them on firefighting supply places (usually $20-30!)." - I am strictly referring to 3/4" GHT Nozzles. The image on McMaster looks like the ones made by Moon American or Underhill - both of these are cast and have a rough ...

Re: My CPH just shot over 70 Ft!

Thank you for the info, Tyler! These might just be the only non-cast, non-stepped 6" sweeper nozzles on the market. I've been looking for a long time. I've already placed an order at http://www.ewingirrigation.com. If you've already tried regular straws and shake straws, I'm guessing your 4mm straws...

Re: My CPH just shot over 70 Ft!

Hi Tyler, Once again, great work! Is that 6" nozzle as smooth on the inside as it is on the outside? Most 6" nozzles are cast (rather than machined from bar stock), so they are rough on the inside. Have you compared the performance of your 2" brass nozzle vs. 2" red plastic nozzle vs. 6" brass nozzl...

Hey Tyler,

Nice work! Where did you get that nozzle? I'd like to buy one and try it on my rig.

What diameter cocktail straws did you use? 3mm? 4mm?

Re: Water spray gun for garden hose with laminar flow???

Hey Simon,

Yes; that is what I was talking about. Item 43a only.

However, you could further improve the stream by adding laminar flow elements before the brass sweeper nozzle. You just need to include a female garden hose adapter as your connection point for the garden hose.

Hi Loeve,

Try the Sweeper Nozzle that I used here (item 43a on the bill of materials).

Hey Eyekon,

Welcome!

If you want it bad enough, why not just buy one on ebay? As of this writing, there is one for sale by a Canadian seller who will likely ship to your location.

Re: Next generation rubber CPS homemade water gun planning

Hey Drench, "...you could...put a bike grip on the grip" - I do have a rubber bicycle grip modeled in the screenshots that is over the CPVC. It's not very apparent because I didn't model in any texture on the grip. Above the gold brake lever clamp is the black external 25-degree spacer. If you zoom ...

Re: Next generation rubber CPS homemade water gun planning

Drench- “...I prefer a real pistol grip...” - I agree that a real pistol grip would be slicker. Are you suggesting just a pistol grip or a pistol grip with trigger? I don’t think I could use a pistol trigger unless I were using an electric or pneumatically-actuated valve (very short travel). If I us...

Re: Next generation rubber CPS homemade water gun planning

Hey Ben, "I think a 4.25 inch ID tube is way too big." - The large OD allows me to put the valve inside the PC cover. Maybe I'll just build up the bladder to a larger OD. I'm thinking I might try to use Gum Rubber Tubing (GRT) instead of LRT. Sling shot enthusiasts use LRT and GRT interchangeably. T...

Re: Next generation rubber CPS homemade water gun planning

<bump> I think Ben is really on to something here. I was hoping there would be more interest in this thread. No worries, I will design what I think is best, and I can tweak the final design before building in January. I will go with the 4-1/4" ID (4-1/2" OD) polycarbonate PC cover. This will allow m...

Re: Backpack soaker

Hey Dino,

It depends how extreme you want to get. Operating the POPCAP is fun, but a setup with an LRT bladder (homemade or store bought) and a hydration system or solar shower backpack reservoir will be easier on the wallet.

I cannot elaborate because I am on a quick lunch break, but perhaps this thread can help. It suggests putting a rubber band around the valve pin. Below is an example of a valve repaired with a rubber band. Your valve looks different than this one, but it's still a good visual. http://www.blisstonia....

Re: POPCAP

Hey Drench, SuperCAP was a proof-of-concept for CAP. My initial intention for POPCAP was to be a proof-of-concept for a new trigger system (which ended up being the POP). The POP evolved from research and planning; the laminator evolved from trial and error. I wanted to showcase new nozzles, but the...
