Sorry for reopening this old post.

One change I've made recently to it is to cut a 1" hole going straight down the center of the two pieces and to cut a much smaller hole on the bottom piece. Tie a string to the small hole and attach the other end to your launcher.
Using this the balloon is launched, then released by the shell, allowing for easy re-use as Duxburian had been asking for.

This would work, although I had expected people would be using it already. I mean, what's the point of reusable sabots if they go flying out into the woods?! :p

Nice idea, though.

Ya, thats the problem I have with the other Sabot designs. My only concern is of the string popping the balloon as its launcher. Though you could attach the end of the string to the inside of your barrel at the place where you connect to the valve.
