Further laminator use
Here are more installations. The 2700 should be the most interesting since it has the 20x nozzle. We'll see how the MX functions now, and if the smaller nozzles on the 2500 don't work they'll get removed. More to come, Brad

@dragonclass: you've gone STRAWcrazy!
Very interesting and promising modifications! Please post shot pics when you've had a chance to test these guys out! I'm not quite sure if I am seeing the CPS2500 nozzle mod correctly, but did you primarily end up inserting your lamination set-up into a sawed off nozzle selector? If so, not sure if the 5x nozzle will benefit much, but I'm curious how the 10x and 20x settings will perform.

No, that just an optical illusion from the flash.

Re: Further laminator use
OK, the run down is:
- My CPS2700's bored nozzle made quick work of its lam assembly. Boasted it to 23x in a sec!
- The 2500's smaller nozzles aren't able to use the laminators efficiently. Out they go. 22x stream held together until its new range: 34' at 45 degrees.
- The MX looses its flash flood nozzle for a focused 18x at 35 feet. This also proves that I should be able to pull the nozzle lams out of the selector and just rely on the main laminator. This setup should be paid close attention to by owners of MXLs, Monsters, and 4100s. Just be aware that the laminator has to be 3/4" long to cover the entire area. Have a fine summer day, Brad.

Re: Further laminator use
The problem with the smaller nozzles is that the laminators aren't used correctly on any of these. The point was to laminate the water flow before it exits the nozzle. After it exits the laminators will break the stream up into small streams which does seem to cause more stream breakup on smaller nozzles. Anyway, for the laminators to be effective they have to be long and thin, and putting them in the nozzles isn't anywhere close to long enough and you're getting some weird effects on small nozzles so I wouldn't suggest them. I also tend to think that the orifice has to be cleanly drilled to make a nice stream so putting stuff after the orifice defeats that purpose.
Re: Further laminator use
Ben makes good points about laminator length and positioning. I wonder, though, whether for the large nozzles, you might be able to regain cohesion if you put a screen at the end of the laminator. I figure it's something that could be tried without much extra work (tape could be used to temporarily hold a screen in place for testing). As for the small nozzles, the laminator is having the opposite effect which isn't necessarily a bad thing, per se. You've just managed to create a different form of riot blast. On the bright side, your mod appears to be easily reversed so it ends up being an interesting experiment.

Re: Further laminator use
These do look like creative modifications that have a lot of potential to improve lamination and range.
However...
My CPS2700's bored nozzle made quick work of its lam assembly. Boasted it to 23x in a sec!
...there's no way straws could increase output. Their function is to increase lamination at the expense of a little output - and the tradeoff is worth it.

Re: Further laminator use
Thats nice!
Didn't thought someone else was adding straws/screens to increase lamination of larger nozzles! I first experimented this with my Flash Flood's nozzle selector. It does a pretty good job focusing streams, as well as doing a range boost on some nozzle sizes. Later then I designed another version of this laminator that was meant to be used on my PowerPak's replacement gun as well as on my CPH in progress. I took enough pictures to write some kind of guide about this homemade laminator but for some reason I forgot to share the info in the forums. I should be posting this soon...
Good mods btw!
