SS 300 Pump repair

Post by the oncoming storm » Tue May 14, 2013 6:46 pm

While Pumping my 300 today I made a small crack in the pump rod and snapped the little connector piece. I will do a pump reinforcement and dad is looking into a substitute to plastic, put simply 20 year old hollow plastic can't handle the 46bs of pump force required to reach operating pressure.

Any Ideas from WW.net ?

A picture would be helpful. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "connector piece". Do you mean the column that attaches both halves of the pump handle through the hole in the pump rod? If that's the case, all you have to do is drive a bolt through it. We did this with our 21K and 1021. As for the crack in the pump rod, I think the best way to reinforce it is to put a metal rod into the hollow part. I'm not really sure about this though, as I've never done it. I think marauder did it to some of his guns, so he might be able to tell you more.

Remember when I told you that owning an SS 300 is a love/hate relationship? :P

Yes Seal that piece, good news is It's an easy fix. I still love my 300 a ton, but will look into getting a 2700 for smaller games so the 300 don't get used as heavily.

You may want to do what Commander Dave did here http://www.angelfire.com/sports/gng/xxp ... ration.htm

If I still had it, and had $ to spare, I'd take it to a metal shop and have them duplicate the internals with brass and then come up with some sort of way to have a real trigger. Then I'd put a long metal coil inside or around the backpack tube, like with the Aquapak Devastator, and run it to a soft pack. Lastly, I'd cover it in a home made ghillie cover. All in all it'd probably cost you about as much as buying a new 300, but if you had the money it'd totally be worth it.
