Roleplay setup: The standoff town

Postby Ox-11 » Sat Apr 13, 2013 9:12 pm

Sorry, but I have to put this here.

You may choose Westridge or Eastview. Riverside is also an option.

Map of the region:
Map of roleplay region.png
Map of roleplay region.png (65.11 KiB) Viewed 909 times

Key: Brown lines are roads, the yellow rectangle is the RUM's territory, the blue line is a river, and the gray lines are city boundaries

Both Westridge and Eastview are racing to build a superweapon that will end the standoff once and for all. Westridge is designing a water cannon with the range of a Douchenator relative to the ground and Eastview is building a tank that can mount a Douchenator. As of right now, the Riverside University Militia (RUM) is tolerating the presence of Eastview and Westridge, and the battles are more like skirmishes, but that may all change.

My character is:
Jackson Ox.
Side: Westridge
Skills: Repair, building, and design.
Equipment: A Colossus with a drilled N9 nozzle, a Swiss army knife, a Phillips head screwdriver, a portable drill, some PVC, 5 water balloons at all times, and 2 2L bottles filled with water.
Age: Unknown teen
Characteristics: Impatient with instructions, has a lot of nervous energy, and is quick to design something new.
Height: 5 ft tall
Build: Solid and round.

I can't have a rivalry when my best gun is the Colossus, so don't ask; I can't.

Not sure if you ever saw the Camp Water Warfare RP on SSCentral, but from there I have a few things to suggest:

- If you want me to make a map of this in 3D (Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 is my fastest way of doing this), I can do so. Sample.
- We can stick to simple flat maps, but yours is rather lacking in detail. If you have any game you can use to create the map you want, I'd suggest giving it a shot, otherwise just add more detail to this one. (i.e. Trees, cover, topography, etc.)
- We may want to limit the number of characters everyone can create to keep things simple. (Exception being NPC's.)

I'll setup a character later.

Might as well join in this time. Not entirely sure I understand how these work, but I think the idea is for everyone to make a character and control him or her through different scenarios. Am I right?

So here's my character:

Name: Jeb
Side: Eastview
Age: 22
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 190 lbs
Build: Fairly muscular
Skills: Fighting and tactics
Equipment: Camo painted CPS 27K (shoots up to 47 feet); blacked-out CPS 1-3-5K with all five nozzles drilled (close-quarters weapon); ~100 water balloons (2 or 3 filled); Swiss army knife with like 15 tools
Characteristics: Major redneck; drives a huge truck and enjoys off-roading. Jeb lost his girlfriend in a fire, and as a result has developed a drinking problem. When not dipping in the sauce, Jeb is usually rather quiet and saddened-looking. Though many may take him for a dumb hillbilly, he is actually quite clever, and knows a good bit about tactics. He is a rather aggressive fighter, and enjoys making kills directly by overpowering his opponents, instead of by ambushes or other indirect methods. This gives him a lot of kills, but he does tend to get killed more often than other players. He needs action at all times; if he doesn't get it, he gets restless.

Name: Arthur
Side: Westridge
Age: 17
Height: 6' 2"
Weight: 155 lb.
Build: skinny, little arm strength
Skills: endurance, stealth
Equipment: stock 1200 with high quality strap, about 25 water balloons (none filled), small homemade device for filling balloons from 1200
Characteristics: Arthur is exceptionally quiet much of the time. He prefers to spend time alone, scouting or serving as a distraction rather than brawling on the front lines. He is, however, devoted to his team and understands how to best work with them despite their seperation. Along with occasionally finding himself outnumbered and outgunned, His greatest weakness is his inability to predict opponent strategies, often causing him to misjudge the intentions behind their movements.

Name: Stephen
Team: Riverside
Age: 17
Height: 5'11"
Weight:135lbs
Build: Skinny
Skills: Can predict enemy movements fairly well, Quick and Agile but with poor endurance, Stealthy.
Equipment: Super Soaker 300, Water Warriors Renegade, Dual Goblins
Character: Stephen got most of his training in soakfests explaining for his extremely heavy loadout, He makes a small and agile target, somewhat reserved most of the time tending to stay at peoples max range, but can go hyper aggressive and even charge when cornered making him somewhat unpredictable.
Additional Info: While he uses a 300 he is working on making an LPD that should hit 60'

Side oncoming storm? Here is a backstory for my character who I am renaming Marshall. Having always been skinny and small for his age, and always defending his point of veiw, he got into many fights througout his school years. He learned quickly that to compensate for his lack of size and brute srength, he needed skill, and stealthiness, along with speed and the abilty to find an opening in his opponent's guard or plans. Thus comes his stealthy nature and tactical abilities. Being fast and smart makes him a specialist in ambushes, in and out of water warfare. He has joined the eastveiw team originally to make friends, not showing up to many battles, but has now become a "regular" on the battlefield. He seeks to improve his largest weaknesses which are his inability to co-ordinate large amounts of people, his inderectness in most things, and his greneral unluckiness.

Oncoming storm, it might be a good idea to balance your character somewhat. Notice that most characters have weaknesses and more realistic weaponry.

^ I wouldn't worry too much about that, if the LPD he's carrying is a modern (instead of theoretical/futuristic) one, considering modern LPDs' pistons don't work and weigh at least as much as 2 gallons of water when empty. On the other hand, if the LPD is made of space-age materials, has a working piston, and is self powered somehow (it's nearly impossible for something to be combat practical and hit 60'), then that's definitely something to deal with. Although that said, the story itself is farfetched beyond anything I've heard; Westridge would need quantum physicists to alter the laws of physics in order to get any water stream to shoot past 200ft (or they need to find fairy dust to fill up the pressure chambers with), just to take on a vehicle with modern/current water weaponry.

I'll setup a character when the story makes more sense, as I'm not sure what kind of reality this whole story is supposed to take place in. In the meantime, this template's good for copy and pasting.

The LPD I described isn't fictional I am building it right now, and it sure is heavy 5.5lbs so far and I haven't even added all the parts yet. It is going to be as long as the Monster XL 2000-2001 version . Loaded to the Max this behemoth will weight 55 to 60lbs and hold almost 6 gallons of water and should last around 9-12 hours between refills in 1HS games.

I am a Heavy Weapons Officer and this gun is designed to fill that role perfectly with high range, Capacity, and shot time (over 15 seconds on 5x). Mobility may or may not be horrible but it is made for team games.

Well all I have to say is, good luck getting that piston to seal for good. Not exactly sure how you're getting 6 gallons of water on there and carrying all of it though. (6 gallons is larger than a solar shower backpack, so I have can't even imagine the main piece holding that much.)

Still, I'd like an explanation of how anyone thinks they can build a water cannon with WBL range. I think I'll just make the assumption that some people at Westridge simply don't know what they're doing, and with that said, here's a character!

Name: Kyle S.
Team: Riverside
Age: 21
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 170 lbs
Build: Somewhat muscular, slightly skinny
Skills: Construction and building, great with any weapon combination. Lacks in-depth understanding of high level tactics and strategy, but can hold his own for quite a while.
Equipment:
- CPS 2500, CPS 12k, Max-D 4000 w/ nozzle drill.
- Experimental 2nd gen APH w/ backpack
- Super-compact WBL (Over-under design with 1' PC, 2ft barrel, and 1" modified sprinkler valve. Very easy to shoulder-fire.)
- Has virtually unlimited stockpile of water balloons and water bottles, and even adjusted all his blasters to be useful for filling water balloons.
- Prefers to travel light when able to.
Character: Generally reserved and sometimes even a bit shy, but has also been known to be the heart of the party at times. Play style is very passive-aggressive. Sometimes his actions result in huge victories, and sometimes in huge looses.
Additional Info: A current student at Riverside University, he's always seriously considered switching his major to Mechanical Engineering, but has never quite managed to do so due to constantly being busy with the school's water warfare team, RUM. While busy publically making fun of Westridge builders who thought that a 300ft-ranged water cannon was physically possible to build at a usable scale and price, someone from Eastview managed to steal his design for a mobile, foot-powered base which had ways of integrating a WBL and foot pumps onboard. (He simply forgot to log off a library computer.)

Uh

My LPD will use a 5 gallon solar shower the other gallon is held in the PC.

So that's 3-4 3" PVC tubes (depending on your ratio) at 2 feet long each. I would not want a fully loaded solar shower while carrying that, but if you can manage it, awesome.

That leaves the question of range. You will need a lot of air pre-pumping to get enough power to reach that range, but that's going to be real rough to pump with water afterwards. That said, I definitely look forward to how it turns out. The community's previous failures at a practical LPD alone shouldn't hold you back. I definitely need to do more research on piston seals though.

Now that I've thoroughly derailed this thread, I'll take this chance to ask how many players and participants everyone wants before getting started. Just curious. We may need more characters from each of us to fill up the teams, depending on how many participate.

I think I got near to 60ft (end of main puddle, so slightly more than effective range) out of my low-ish pressure drop-off homemade (it uses a 5L expansion tank, but the internal water bladder is only 2L so a 1.5:1 air:water ratio). That drops to around 55ft at the end of the shot. That was with a 2.5bar pre-charge, using the mains water to pressurise it. By pumping it aswell, I could probably squeeze a bit more out of it (I hate pumping it from empty if I'm using the main nozzle. It takes too long to fill the 2L PC for two seconds shot time, and it gets painful after a while.). I'm unsure if a 5x nozzle could reach 60ft. If it was a really good nozzle it's possible, but the stream will break up quite a bit preventing it from reaching max range (I could only get 60ft with the 30-35x 8.5mm main nozzle).

Nevertheless, if it works it'll be pretty impressive!

Out of interest, what's the ratio of air to water (by volume) of your design?

EDIT:
Might be worth separating these topics before it gets to far off-topic. :goofy:
