Re: PSI of bottles?

I'm against people using soda bottles as pressure chambers. They make decent reservoirs if you're on a budget, but as chambers they are too thin. You may test out a bottle in ideal conditions (no additional stress) and get 100 to 200 psi, but in battle there would be additional stress. For example, ...

Re: My first WBL

If it says non-pressure, do not use it. Non-pressure means that it can't take any pressure at all.

If weight is an issue, just make the launcher smaller. A short barrel and chamber may hurt performance, but it certainly will make the launcher much lighter.

Re: My first WBL

Do not use drain pipe for a barrel. It's for unpressurized situations only (letting water flow in the open atmosphere). That's why it's great for structural components like tanks. Drain pipe isn't designed to handle any pressure. Once you open the firing valve, the pressurized air will rush into the...

Re: Proper LRT and Case Length

Ben and I have had LRT last for years and hundreds of expansions. We've only had it burst twice: once from overuse, and a second time from twisting adding additional stress. For the most part, I don't worry about the bladder's life span. It's really quite long. I don't have any data on how long the ...

Re: Proper LRT and Case Length

Neither case is wider. If you look at LRT as it expands, you see that it first expands in diameter, and then in length. The first few pumps into the chamber give a really bulbous, balloon-like figure. It expands mostly in diameter for those. After that, it starts to fill up the entire bladder and ex...

Re: Proper LRT and Case Length

Fishfan, you're right. LRT can expand up to 3 times in length, but I assumed 2 times for a slight safety factor. That doesn't mean that 3 times in unsafe, though. 3 times is fine too. Poseidon2000, yes, you can just follow the same principle that I used. I calculated the area of a circle with the LR...

Re: Proper LRT and Case Length

This depends on the LRT's inner diameter. For standard 3/8 inch ID LRT, I'll assume that it expands 8 times in diameter and twice in length (these assumption may not be completely correct, but we'll still get an approximate and reasonable answer with them). 8 times 3/8 is 3 inches, which comes out t...

Re: My new CPS system (Almost Done!!!)

Ben and I never tried out gum rubber. I can't say for sure if it is better than LRT. It might be, but it might also not be. Given that both are about the same price, and that LRT is advertised as being highly elastic, I don't really see any advantage in gum rubber. In you're worried about chemical d...

Re: My new CPS system (Almost Done!!!)

I would not use 1/8 inch ID, 1/2 inch OD tubing for a CPS bladder. Two things are needed for good performance -- high pressure and high (and good) flow. Just because the pressure is very high, doesn't mean it would perform well. The ID of the tube is 1/8 inch, which is tiny. It's difficult enough to...

Re: Riptide CPS Prototype

Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of the construction process, so a guide would be hard to write. I designed and build the gun simultaneously, using parts that were laying around the shop. I think I only ordered 3 parts from McMaster: both check valves and the square brass tee. The design cam...

Re: Riptide CPS Prototype

Thanks for the replies and positive comments, isoaker_com and C-A_99. How many pumps does it take to fill the PC; any idea on the approx pump volume? The PC volume is around 2500 to 3000 mL, and the pump volume is 45 mL, so it will take around 56 to 67 pumps to get it full. But remember, that's over...

Riptide CPS Prototype

http://images.sscentral.org/riptide/gun02.jpg http://images.sscentral.org/riptide/gun01.jpg I posted this at Super Soaker Central about 2 weeks ago and figure that I ought to post this here for more comments. I've labeled this gun Riptide DR-4. It's a cylindrical CPS water gun with a trigger, track...

Re: Skill Versus Tech

I voted "Need decent skill, but better tech is more important." In my opinion, you can be the greatest fighter to ever live, but if you're stuck with a squirt pistol, you're just a sponge--plain and simple. On the other side of things, you can be the worst fighter ever, but as long as you got a good...

1. Reservoir cap.
2. Reservoir.
3. Feed line?
6. Pump shaft or pump tube.
8. Pump rod.
9. Pump handle.
10. Don't know what that is. I'm assuming it's the relief valve and the air input place.
15. Firing valve.
16. Firing valve assembly.
17. Trigger
19. Nozzle.

Wow, Easton sounds remarkably like Ben's and my hometown. And it's great to hear such a good park for a possible tournament in a location so close to where you live. Can't wait for the pictures.

Re: Hands-On: Super Soaker Quick Blast

It probably just pumps the water into a separate chamber just like standard air pressure gun. The difference is in the firing valve: This one should have a check valve as the firing valve! The check valve would just open at a higher pressure than the normal, 1 psig check valves weren't used to seein...

Re: Recommended Team Sizes for Tournament-Level Games

I agree in some respects. For one, I definitely think that smaller teams will be easier to make. But larger teams can be much more fun! Four people is alright; I just think that six will make the game more enjoyable while still maintaining a low number. Eight just seems too big. If I had to choose b...

Re: Recommended Team Sizes for Tournament-Level Games

I voted six. This number can split a team into two units of three. Depending on the gametype, this might be useful because you can defend a base; the other can go out and fight. If it's more of a points or kills style game, this number should be enough to give both sides the flexibility to fight how...

Yeah, that is a lot of flow. If anyone really cares, that's about 38.4 million ounces a second according to the data in the second slide.

Re: Hasbro Does it Again!

Now, Larami cared about us, they gave us what we wanted, and they kept it going for 13 long years. Then Hasbro comes in, and says, "hey, we will give you lots of money if you give us your water guns". To be fair, Larami was bought by Hasbro long before the guns got back. In fact, the whole CPS line...
